Antique French oil painting portrait study of Bolivian peasants. French School, circa 1920/30s. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Size of frame: 17 x 15 inches; Size of canvas: 10.25 x 8.25 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 9.75 x 8 inches. Weight: 2.15 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, some damage to canvas with several repairs to reverse, some minor restoration and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. The antique wood of this item has had a minor woodworm infestation at some point in its long life. However, this has now been specially treated to eradicate. Priced accordingly. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality. This frame is extremely delicate and vulnerable to damage in transit, even with good packing. On this occasion, therefore, the painting is offered for sale alone and the frame does not form part of the price. The frame will, however, be included in the purchase for free. That is to say, if you are purchasing this item, then it is on the understanding that it is the painting alone and the frame will be included as a gift (and therefore accepting any and all responsibility for damage in transit).
