Antique early Victorian landscape oil painting of farmhouse and figures. English School, circa 1820-60. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Gilt gesso frame. Depicts a farmhouse with figures on country path. Size of frame: 22.25 x 16 inches; Size of canvas: 16 x 10 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 15.5 x 9.5 inches. Weight: 2.4 kg (allow 6 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, some superficial staining, some areas of damage to canvas with several repairs to reverse and various knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. This painting is quite sombre and melancholy and, although photographed in daylight, please understand that it is quite dark in reality. The antique wood of this item has had a minor woodworm infestation at some point in its long life. However, this has now been specially treated to eradicate. Priced accordingly.
