Antique Continental oil painting study of goatherder on a donkey. Continental School, circa 1880-1900. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Highly elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a girl goatherder on her donkey with goats under a stone archway. Size of frame: 21.5 x 17.5 inches; Size of canvas: 16 x 12 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 15 x 11 inches. Weight: 2.3 kg (allow 8 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, staining, craquelure, an area of damage to canvas with repair to reverse and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. Best described as shabby chic or faded grandeur. Please DO satisfy yourself as to the condition before buying. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged.
