Antique Continental oil painting portrait study of a saint with English flag

£750.00
Antique Continental oil painting portrait study of a saint with English flag. Continental School, possibly French or Flemish, circa 1860-90. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on canvas. Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a saint with crown holding what appears to be an English flag. Size of frame: 27 x 22 inches; Size of canvas: 21.5 x 17 inches; Size of front portrait aperture: 20.5 x 15.5 inches. Weight: 3.1 kg (allow up to 10 kg volumetric weight once packed). Tatty condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, lots of areas of damage to canvas with numerous repairs to reverse, some restoration work and lots of knocks to and pieces missing from gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. The antique wood of this item has had a minor woodworm infestation at some point in its long life. However, this has now been specially treated to eradicate. Priced accordingly. Best described as shabby chic or faded grandeur. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier. No refunds will be available for this reason nor can the item be returned.
