Antique coastal landscape oil painting of Portsmouth with sailing boats and fort. English, circa 1880-1900. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on board. Gilt gesso frame. It has been remounted in its original frame at some point. Depicts a coastal landscape, believed to be Portsmouth in England, with town and fort in background. Size of frame: 19.25 x 16 inches; Size of painting: 14 x 11 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 13 x 10 inches. Weight: 2.9 kg (allow 5 kg volumetric weight once packed). Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure and some knocks to and pieces missing from gesso plaster but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier.
