Antique coastal landscape of a naval assault on fortress town. British School, possibly Scottish. circa 1800-40. Sourced from a Scottish country house, Penicuik House, nr Edinburgh. Unsigned, artist unknown. Oil on tin. Distressed gilt gesso frame. Depicts a naval assault on a fortress town. Size of frame: 20.5 x 17.5 inches; Size of painting: 14 x 11.5 inches; Size of front painting aperture: 13.75 x 10.75 inches. Weight: 2.2 kg (allow 6 kg volumetric weight once packed). Tatty condition, commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, lots of paint loss and flaking and lots of damage to frame ie lots of knocks to and pieces missing but all part of its charm and character. As mentioned, there are areas where the antique paintwork has started to flake off from the canvas. Whilst every care will be taken with packing, I cannot guarantee that more flaking will occur in transit so please be aware of this before buying (and any such risk will be on the buyer. Priced accordingly. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged.
